We have lost a unique ecumenical theologian and man of prayer who will, I pray, soon be interceding for us all. I will never forget his friendship, going back to the 1980s at Columbia/UTS, and his decisive support of the work of the 7th Round of Catholic-Reformed Dialogue (2003-2009), which led to a binding agreement on Baptism, the first ever in over 40 years of ecumenical dialogues with the US Conference of Catholic Bishops. Ralph was more than books and agreements, however. His spirit of prayer will continue to resonate with me, and with many of us, still struggling to be faithful in this world. I am remembering celebrating the Eucharist in academic conference hotel rooms with him, "where two or three are gathered in My Name". In peace, Fr. Francis

Dale,

Along with you and scores of others, I am saddened to hear of Ralph's homegoing. Although I did not know him personally, I am familiar with his life and work for the Kingdom. And I had been praying for him after hearing his prognosis. Thank you for taking time to honor such a godly man, whose life will continue to impact others around the world through his gentleness, grace, and scholarship.

Dale, I received with shock the news of the passing of Ralph into glory. I was thinking of him only last Thursday (July 26) as I was grappling with a question Wolfgang Vondey had asked me. I have been in Nigeria since mid June and when I received Vondey's inquiry I thought of him for a long time. I never knew he was sick and the news of his death came as a shock. May his soul rest in piece.
